Raglan-based artist Kayla Bacon is a contemporary artist whose vibrant practice explores colour, pattern, form and materiality. A 2023 graduate of Wintec with a Bachelor of Contemporary Art, Bacon has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in bold abstraction and a strong appreciation for pattern.
Her laser-cut works are characterised by vivid colour, geometric forms and rhythmic compositions, drawing inspiration from the graphic qualities and playful visual language of 1970s pattern design. Through the precision of laser cutting, Bacon transforms abstract forms into layered compositions that explore repetition, movement and spatial relationships.
Material experimentation is central to her practice. Her work moves beyond the traditional boundaries of painting, exploring how an image can be translated into different physical forms and experienced through different surfaces and scales.
Bacon also collaborates with HANRAD Bespoke Rugs, translating her paintings into bespoke rugs. This collaboration extends her visual language into interior and object design, allowing her work to become a tactile part of architectural spaces.
Based in Raglan, Bacon continues to explore the relationship between contemporary art and design, creating vibrant works that combine abstraction, pattern and a playful sense of nostalgia.
