Kayla Bacon

Kayla Bacon is a Whaingaroa Raglan-based artist and a 2023 graduate of Wintec's Bachelor of Contemporary Art. Inspired by the Pattern and Decoration movement and the bold visual language of 1970s wallpaper design, her practice explores colour, geometry and optical illusion through precisely crafted laser-cut works. Blending contemporary design with fine art, Kayla creates playful abstractions that invite viewers to experience pattern as both image and object.

Her distinctive visual language has expanded into collectible design through an ongoing collaboration with HANRAD Bespoke Rugs, translating her geometric compositions into a bespoke rug collection.

For City of Wonder, Kayla presents new work in the Main Exhibition, bringing a fresh contemporary design perspective to the programme and celebrating the dialogue between art, pattern and functional design.
