Joslyn Hobbis

Joslyn Hobbis paints beyond the confines of the traditional rectangle, creating shaped works that blur the boundaries between painting, object and installation. Layering manual and mechanised gestural marks in a bold, high-contrast palette, her practice explores movement, rhythm and the physicality of mark-making. Through experimentation with form and process, her works challenge conventional ideas of the painted surface and invite new ways of experiencing abstraction.

Joslyn has exhibited at Hamilton's Welcome Swallow Gallery and in group exhibitions at City Gallery Wellington, continuing to develop a distinctive contemporary painting practice that is both playful and dynamic.

For City of Wonder, Joslyn presents new work in the Main Exhibition, bringing her bold, sculptural approach to painting into dialogue with the festival's celebration of contemporary art and design.
