Benjamin Grant

Based in Whaingaroa Raglan, Benjamin Grant is a sculptural furniture maker and designer whose practice explores the relationship between materiality, craftsmanship and human interaction. Working primarily with timber, he creates functional objects that balance refined design with a strong sculptural presence, encouraging people to engage with furniture in thoughtful and unexpected ways.

Benjamin is a part-time tutor at the Centre for Fine Woodworking in Nelson and was a recipient of the Creative New Zealand Early Career Fund, supporting a residency with Yuri Kobayashi and David Haig. Alongside his independent design practice, Benjamin Grant Furniture, he runs Wood Works Raglan, specialising in bespoke kitchens and custom furniture.

For City of Wonder, Benjamin presents his work in the Main Exhibition, bringing contemporary furniture design into dialogue with art, architecture and everyday living, and highlighting the craftsmanship and innovation shaping Aotearoa's design culture.
